Volando a casa...
(flying home)

Most people think that when we return back to the country we were born in, that it is just like any other vacation. This is very far from the truth…it takes courage to see a life that could of been yours, to reconnect with what was taken away from us(family, culture, identity)

Allowing ourselves to look into aspects of ourselves that we may have denied, chosen to keep hidden, or have tried to find but was too overwhelming…takes bravery. In this collective mural that was created during the Bogotá adoptee meet up, 2025 the guacamaya bird is migrating back to its madre tierra (motherland) and for some of back to our mothers. As you can see she too has been waiting for us. As the sun sets and rises, so do we.

A big thank you to @mona.prisma that helped make our ideas and sentiments a reality. This mural represents our right to return and rediscover where we come from regardless of anyone’s opinion. Y muchas gracias a @capital.graffiti.tours for coordination support to make this day a reality !Thank you of course to all of the adoptees that helped paint and create, leaving their mark in Colombia :)

This was the first year that we were able to create a mural that represents our experience and is symbolic of us leaving part of our mark and essence here in Colombia. The artists that collaborated with us created the outline based off words and ideas we had as a group :)

Regresando...
(returning)

The second collective mural that we created represents the travel between two dimensions when we go between our first home and the countries that we were taken to. It shows the process of the integration of various identities.

The door is the portal between two worlds that we often find ourselves navigating in. A big thank you to Nelson from @justmusicoldschool and Jhaire at @capital.graffiti.tours who helped coordinate the two sites for us to paint and to artist @joems777 who created the outline based off our ideas!

It was a beautiful community project and an event that we will never forget. Gracias to the community members who participated and supported us this day and to my fellow adoptees who painted their hearts out despite the rain!
